LUCiiLLE BALL NHD

This year's 2009 NHD competition's theme is about an individual in history legacy and actions. The person i choose, is none other than Lucille Ball. I chose her because she is one of the first woman comedians who broke all barriers. she was told she had no talent and was determined to prove those people wrong. There were other woman comedians but Lucy out did them all. Lucy grew up in hard times, and battled other women to earn her spotlight. Lucille Ball is important to history because without her efforts, television would not have received the shape and depth of great comedy. She was also the first woman to own a multi-million-production company called the DesiLu studios.

For this week’s research, I found an article: http://www.museum.tv/archives/etv/B/htmlB/balllucille/balllucille.htm

This article explains how Lucille Ball became The wisecracking red head that America loved. She began her career as a Goldwyn girl, eventually moving up to “b” movies and started her television career as Lucy Ricardo In 1951. A 5 time
Emmy award winner , The first woman inducted into the televisions hall of fame, A recipient of a Genii Award and a Kennedy center honor. Her independence, popularity, and determination, coupled with her husband, resulted in the co-owner ship of and control of one of the most successful television production studios in history. With her 1962 buyout of the Desilu from her ex husband Desi Arnaz, she became the first woman to head a major television production studio.

*This article helped my reasearch becuase it gave me a chronilogical order of events leading up to the queen of comedy. It also gave me some more information on her awards, and last it helped me conduct a thesis statement.
*This article is a secondary source.
*the intended audience may be comedy lovers as well as wemon and of course lucy fans.
